Many small aftershocks are continuing to occur with 17 events over magnitude 4 through Oct. 10. The largest aftershock was a M5.4 (JMA) event on 13:17 on October 8. The plot below shows the events that are automatically located by the SATARN system of the Research Center for Earthquake Prediction, Disaster Preventions Research Institute, Kyoto University. The aftershocks continue to show a northwest-southeast trend that is assumed to be the fault plane.

Below is a cross section of aftershocks showing that the depths range from about 15 km to the surface.

Below is a plot of aftershocks for the first 5 hours following the mainshock.

Below is a plot of the numbers of earthquakes located by Kyoto University. The large second peak on October 8 is the time of 2 M5 aftershocks.
