Collaborative study with Dr. Fred Pollitz of USGS for viscoelastic block model, Collaborative study with Dr. Kelin Wang of CGS for deformation along the Kurile Trench, and attending workshop on deformation of subduction zone at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO).

To attend the 2017 Geoscience Society of New Zealand Annual Conference and meet Stephen Bannister (GNS Science) and Martha Savage (Victoria University of Wellington).

To give a talk on electrical conductivity in fluid-bearing rocks and microstructure of pores and discuss about the future collaboration in ENS, Paris and University of Strasbourg.

Experimental collaboration for low-temperature thermochronology using fission-track and (U-Th)/He techniques.

To discuss collaborative research plan of Ph.D. Chen’s international invitation to Kyoto for 3 months from August with Prof. Spiers, Ph.D. Niemeijer, and Ph.D. Chen, and to give a seminar on “Numerical friction experiments on scale effects in friction: Mechanical properties of a fault element including small repeating earthquake”.

To conduct collaboration research on elucidation of an earthquake cycle and crustal dynamics along the Kurile Trench, hosted by Dr. Kelin Wang, Pacific Geoscience Centre, Geological Survey of Canada.

To attend a workshop on “Faulting and earthquakes” and 4th ICCE, and discussions on international collaboration with Professor Ma (China Earthquake Administration), Professor Spiers (Utrecht University), and Ph.D. Chen (Utrecht University).

To attend the 2017 Geoscience Society of New Zealand Annual Conference.

Hydrological and geochemical studies on deep seated crustal fluids within and beyond the subduction zone of the eastern margin of Eurasia.

Maintenance of the seismic station in the focal area of the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake.

        To install seismic stations in the northern part of South Island of New Zealand and attend the research meeting with researchers of related organizations to discuss the stress field in the earth crust, together with Prof. Sibson, a professor emeritus at University of Otago, and others, etc.

The east coast of North Island of New Zealand near Gisborne

        To conduct electromagnetic observations for clarifying the relation between distributions of electroresistivity and inter-plate friction in a subduction zone.

To implement a fault constitutive law developed by Ph.D. Chen (CNS model) to a simulation code for earthquake cycles, and to give a seminar at DPRI, Kyoto University.

To attend Japan-Taiwan international workshop on crustal deformation and to discuss collaborative research plan.

To serve as a chair of a special session J05
“Crustal Dynamics: multidisciplinary approach to seismogenesis” as a
session convener.

Having a seminar at Tohoku University and a research meeting held at Tohoku university.

Discussion on crustal dynamics from the view
point of observed geodetic (particularly, coseismic and interseismic
deformation) data.

To attend the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2017, to
give a seminar at Tohoku University, and to discuss the direction of
future cooperative researches with members of the Crustal Dynamics
project.

to present the invited paper entitled
‘Episodic tectonic behaviour from crystal-plasticity to seismicity’ at
the JpGU meeting and also do seminars at DPRI and Faculty of Science,
Kyoto University.

Studies on coupled effect of grain-size
evolution and phase mixing: A two phase model for the ductile
deformation of rocks.

           Visiting DPRI, Kyoto University for a discussion on dynamic rupture propagation and a frictional constitutive law of a fault, and to give a special seminar, “Towards Earthquake Rupture Simulations with High Resolution Fault Zone Models”.

          Discussion on estimation of inelastic deformation and modeling of earthquake generation using integral equation method considering inelasticity.

           Visiting DPRI, Kyoto University for a collaboration on dynamic rupture propagation and to give a special seminar, “Recovery of seismic wave speeds after deformation: A rock physics approach”, and visiting ERI, the University of Tokyo for discussion with researchers.

         To attend the “International Symposium on Crustal Dynamics”, to discuss current and future joint researches in the University of Tokyo and in AIST, and to give a seminar in AIST.
